Quick start & onboarding
Create your organization, invite your team, and publish your first on-call schedule.

OnCallRadar answers one question precisely: who is on call right now? This guide takes you from an empty account to a live, published schedule in a few minutes.
1. Create your organization
Sign up at Get started with Google or an email and password. Either method creates a brand-new organization with you as its owner (master admin). There is no instance-wide admin — every organization is fully isolated.
You cannot self-join an existing organization. Joining an existing org is invite-only — an admin invites you, and you activate by signing in. If your company already uses OnCallRadar, ask an admin to invite you instead of registering.
2. Invite your people
- 1Open People and choose Invite.
- 2Enter each person’s email. They join your organization when they activate — via Google sign-in or by claiming a password.
- 3Set timezones on each person where you can. All times are stored in UTC and shown in each viewer’s own timezone, so an accurate timezone keeps everyone’s calendar honest.
Email delivery is not wired up yet, so accounts activate immediately and no message is sent — share the invite link directly for now.
3. Create a schedule
Go to Schedules and create one. A schedule is a single on-call rotation — for example *Platform — Primary*. Key settings to decide up front:
- Required approvals — how many approvers must sign off before a change goes live (default 1).
- 24/7 coverage — when on, any gap in coverage is flagged (advisory, never blocking).
- Flag overlaps — when on, two people scheduled at once is flagged.
- Participants & approvers — who can be assigned shifts, and who can approve changes.
4. Add shifts (the approval flow)
Open the schedule’s calendar and draw shifts, or set up a rotation. Editing the calendar does not write to the live roster — it creates a change proposal. Approvers see a diff of the current published calendar versus your proposed one, leave a decision, and once enough approve, the change is applied atomically. See Core concepts for the full model.
5. Watch it go live
Once a proposal reaches its required approvals, the shifts publish to the live roster. The Now page shows who is on call across every schedule, the escalation chain, and what’s next. That same data is available over the API.
